If that seems high, that's because this is an item aimed at a slightly different consumer than Apple's typical tech products. In fact, the audience for the Apple Watch Edition aren't technophiles but fashionistas.
As a result, Apple is working to sell the Apple Watch Edition, and its whole experience, in a very specific way. Apple says it will be available in "select retail stores."
